Hollon has recently announced the introduction of a new safe, the Hollon HS-510E, which is a medium sized, reasonably priced UL rated 1 hour fireproof home safe. The 1 hour UL rating applied to the safe is a stronger rating than some of the ratings often used by other manufacturers. In order to pass the UL 1 hour fireproof test, the safe is subjected to an 1850 degree F fire for a period of 1 hour. By way of comparison, the average wooden house fire is 950 degrees F. During this time, the temperature inside the safe is measured, and cannot rise above 350 degrees F. This temperature is low enough that the contents inside are not permanently damaged in the event of a fire. The HS-510E measures 19″ x 13-1/2″ x 15-3/4″ on the outside, and 14″ x 8-1/2″ x 11-4/5″ on the inside. It contains 1 removable inside shelf.
The safe uses an electronic keypad locking mechanism. This keypad can accept codes ranging from 3 to 8 digits. It can be programmed with 1 master and 1 user code. The electronic keypad is powered by 4 AA batteries. Other features include seamless construction and composite construction. Both the body and door are seamless, reducing the weak spots (welded seams) associated with safes that use seams. In addition, a seamless safe has an improved appearance. The composite construction is what allows the safe to pass the tough UL 1 hour fireproof rating. The HS-510E employs a composite construction technique that uses 1 solid steel outer layer, a layer of concrete-like fireproofing material in between, and 1 solid steel inner layer. There is also an anchor hole drilled into the bottom of the safe, and complete mounting hardware is included with the safe. Overall, an excellent medium-sized fireproof home safe from Hollon.
