Is a biometric lock really an advantage over say an electronic keypad? When you think about it, there is always room for error for any kind of lock. For the biometric lock, if there is a little bit of a smudge on the reader you won’t be able to get in. So, you’d have to wipe down the reader and then try again. Plus, biometric locks are expensive pieces of equipment. When it comes to the electronic keypad there’s always a chance that the batteries will be dead when you need to get into your safe the most. But, if you keep up with the changing of the batteries, this will not likely happen. Of course, there’s the code that you’ll have to remember to punch in which can be difficult in a stressful situation. The upside on the electronic keypad is that they are not as expensive as a biometric lock. In fact, a lot of gun safes feature an electronic keypad. So, if I had to choose between a biometric lock and an electronic keypad, it’d be the electronic keypad hands down!!!!

When recommending a gun safe for customers, I always go to the Winchester gun safes. They are a great quality gun safe and offer different accessories, unlike a few of their competitors. I have never had any complaints from customers regarding their Winchester Gun Safes, they all seem to be very pleased with their safe.

I came across a Great Question regarding storing a gun safe in a garage in a high humidity area!!! There are always concerns when it comes to where you should store not only your guns and ammunition but also your gun safe. Gun Safes, just like other fireproof safes, are made to withstand high temperatures, some up to 1850 degrees. So when it comes to heat, depending on the gun safe, you should be covered. Now, that does not apply to the humidity of the area in which your safe is being kept. Being in South Texas, believe you me, I know about humidity. I would recommend purchasing a dehumidifying rod. Some gun safes feature a dehumidifying hole, which I do not, DO NOT recommend using. When you use that dehumidifier hole, you are taking away from the fire protection of your gun safe because you are having to run electricity to your gun safe. You don’t want to do that, especially when it comes to guns and ammunition. The dehumidifying rod will do the trick, they’re battery powered so you won’t have to run electricity to it. There’s also damp-rid that you can purchase at a local store, which will help out even more if you are really worried about the humidity. I read this blog on the difference between a media safe and a regular fire rated safe. I found that it was interesting, especially for those that do not realize there’s a huge difference between the two. DATA SAFES are the only ones recommended for keeping diskets, tapes, or CD’s in safe storage. Any temperature above 125 degrees ruins electronic data items. So you can rest comfortably with those important records if they are being stored in a media safe or data safe.

I was checking out this blog on “Why Choose a Gun Safe?” and thought it pretty interesting. Growing up with hunters, I remember seeing guns laying around the house. Looking back, I feel lucky that my interest in those guns were slim to none. But, my brother on the other hand loved anything he could get his hands on. Well, one day he decided that a  handgun of my grandfathers was a good choice for a play toy and ended up shooting out 2 windows, not to mention the cat (Don’t worry, the cat survived)! It could have been a lot worse, and the thing that gets me is this incident could have been totally avoided if my grandparents would have invested in a gun safe. Don’t take a chance on your kids or grand-kids coming across unsupervised guns, whether the safety is on or not. A GUN SAFE is the way to go. You can find them at very reasonable prices, and it’ll be worth it. SAFETY FIRST!!!

As a loyal member of the NRA, I keep an extraordinary array of firearms in my home at all times. While bearing firearms is certainly a right, I recognize that it is also an immense responsibility. When my wife and I had our first child a couple of months ago, I knew that I would have to create a cache for all of my weapons so that the child had no way of accessing them.

Of course, the most efficient and reliable means of storing firearms is a gun safe. After looking online, I decided to go with a premium model that had ample space for all of my guns, as well as future purchases. After owning the safe for several years, I couldn’t be happier with the level of protection and sense of security it provides me and my family.
