Drop Safe

A drop safe, also known as a depository safe, is a safe than you can deposit small items into without opening the safe.  They are useful if your business handles large amounts of cash or small, valuable items such as jewelry or coins.  There are a number of different types of drop safes.  Some have a slot in the top or front, others have a rotary hopper like the ones used on a mailbox.  They feature baffles on the slot or hopper to keep someone from “fishing” the contents of the safe back out through the opening.

You could use a drop safe to deposit any large bills you receive during the day — if you are robbed the thief won’t have access to them.  But it’s a good idea to move your cash or valuables to a more secure safe or the bank at the end of the day, because depository safes are not very burglar-resistant.  You can also buy combination drop safes that have a drop safe on the top and a more secure safe without an opening on the bottom.  For more information on the drop safe.

Depository Safes

Depository safes are safes that you can deposit small items into without opening the safe.  Some have a slot on the top or in the door, and some have a rotary hopper like a mailbox.  They represent the best way to handle large amounts of cash or small valuables that your business may deal with throughout the day.  You can have your employees deposit large bills or small valuable items such as jewelry or coins at various times throughout the day - and you don’t have to give them access to the safe to do it.

It’s a good idea to move the contents of depository safes to a more secure location at night.  This is because of the opening for depositing items, a depository safe is not as secure as, say a burglary rated safe with a TL 15 or TL 30 burglary rating.  Depository safes do have a baffle attached to the opening, however, to  keep someone from “fishing” the contents back out through the opening.  For more information on depository safes.

Depository Safe

A depository safe is a safe that allows cash or other small, thin objects in envelopes to be deposited into the safe without having to open it.  They usually have a slot on top, or a rotary hopper like on a mailbox for making deposits.  These slots or hoppers have baffles in them to keep someone from “fishing” the contents back out through the opening.

Depository safes are useful for periodically depositing big bills if your business handles a lot of cash.  They’re also useful in retail settings such as a jewelry store or coin shop, or any business where you deal with small items with a high value.  They’re available in a wide variety of sizes and shapes, and with a variety of locking mechanisms used to grant access.  For more information on the depository safe.

Biometric Safes

Biometric safes use the latest in technology to secure your valuables.  Most biometric safes have a fingerprint scanner as the device used to grant access to the safe.  You can’t get more secure than that.  Advances in laser technology have brought prices down to the point that they can be included in a surprisingly affordable safe.  Using a biometric safe is easy - you just use the fingerprint scanner to “enroll” the people who have access to the safe by scanning their fingerprints.

Once a user is enrolled, they will be able to open the safe by simply placing their finger on the scanner.  In addition, the safe will keep track of who opened it and when, and give you a report on this activity.  You have complete control over who has access plus you can look for access at unauthorized times.  So a biometric safe is not only safe and secure, it’s convenient and informative as well.  For more information on biometric safes.

Wall Safes

Wall safes are a convenient place to store your valuables.  And, if installed correctly, they are one of the most secure types of safes you can buy.  This is because they can’t be easily carried off.  When looking at wall safes, make certain to check that they carry burglary and fireproof ratings.  Look for a TL15 or TL 30 burglary rating and a 1-hour or 2-hour fireproof rating.

You can also choose from a number of different types of locking mechanisms.  There are keylock, combination dial, and electronic keypad mechanisms.  The electronic keypad mechanism is the most convenient - you simply enter a PIN number on the keypad to access the safe.  There’s no difficult combination to remember or keys to lose.  For more information on wall safes.

Wall Safe

A wall safe is a secure, convenient place to store your valuables.  If mounted in the wall correctly, a wall safe cannot be easily carried off by burglars.  And if it’s hidden well enough, they may not find it to begin with.  A good wall safe can also protect your valuables from fire.  Look for burglary ratings such as UL TL 15 and UL TL 30, and fireproof ratings such as a 1 hour or 2 hour fireproof rating.

Make certain the wall safe that you purchase is large enough to hold all of the things you are likely to put into it.   Allow a little room for growth.  You can get several types of locking mechansisms, including a a keylock, a traditional mechanical combination dial or an electronic keypad lock.  The electronic keypad type is the most convenient - you just enter a pin number on the keypad to open the safe.  For more information on the wall safe.

Safes

Good safes are key to an overall security strategy for your home or business.  A good safe can protect your valuable items from burglars and from damage due to fire.  Be sure to check when looking for a safe to make sure that it carries a burglary and fireproof rating.  Example burglary ratings are UL TL15 and TL 30 ratings, and example fireproof ratings are 1 hour and 2 hour fireproof rated.

Safes that carry these ratings have actually been tested to resist burglars and also tested under actual fire conditions to make certain that the contents of the safe were not damaged.  Also, if you decide on a free-standing safe, make certain that it is bolted down.  Good freestanding safes have bolt-holes in the bottom of the safe for this purpose.  This keeps a would-be thief from carrying the safe to some other place where they will have plenty of time to open it.

Safe

A bolted down safe can save your valuables from the devastating effects of a home burglary.  Here are a few statistics to keep in mind if you’re thinking about purchasing a safe:

-A burglary occurs approximately every 15 seconds in America
-Nearly 66 percent of all burglaries are residential, and of those, 62 percent occur during the daytime
-Most burglaries occur between 9am and 3pm - when most people are away at work
-Only 13% of burglaries are solved by police
-Only about 15% of property stolen in burglaries is recovered by police
-Nearly 85% of burglaries occur in large metropolitan areas

These are just a few reasons that you should use a good bolted down safe in your home.  Also, be sure to check the burglary and fireproof rating of the safe for an even more secure setup.
