My father owns his own computer consulting firm that he operates out of his home office. He designs computer software and writes computer code for small businesses. He also does troubleshooting for many of his clients.

He has a lot of computers, external hard drives, and other electronics where he stores and conducts all of his work. Since he is the main bread winner for the family, if anything happened to his equipment we would be in a bad way financially. To protect his equipment and livelihood, my dad has several fireproof media safes. We’ve all seen it on the news or heard about it on the radio. Someone’s house burned down and they lost all of their irreplaceable and priceless family possessions. I read this blog on the difference between a media safe and a regular fire rated safe. I found that it was interesting, especially for those that do not realize there’s a huge difference between the two. DATA SAFES are the only ones recommended for keeping diskets, tapes, or CD’s in safe storage. Any temperature above 125 degrees ruins electronic data items. So you can rest comfortably with those important records if they are being stored in a media safe or data safe.
