Even if you don’t have long strings of pearls and diamond encrusted timepieces, your jewelry collection undoubtedly includes some of your most valuable and prized possessions. This is even truer now, with the price of gold and other precious metals skyrocketing. Burglars and home invaders are acutely aware of this fact, which is why the jewelry box is one of the first places they look. To that end, a jewelry safe should be present in every home.

While housing your keepsakes in an ornate jewelry box make be appealing, a safe will ensure that your most prized pieces stay in your possession. If you enjoy using a jewelry box as a decoration, leave it on the dresser with nothing inside. Or if you must, add some inexpensive pieces in the box for convenient day-to-day use.

TRTL-30x6 Jewelry Safes

TRTL stands for “Torch and Tool Resistant” and are among the most secure jewelry safes available anywhere.  The TRTL-30×6 series is made by Mutual Safes.  They are constructed using a high density compressed concrete material encased with inner and outer magnesium steel hardplates.  The concrete material has a density of 26,000 PSI and contains a matrix of nuggets and carbon fibers which further enhance its tensile strength.  The TRTL-30×6 uses reinforced armor plating to protect the door frame and each individual bolt chamber from even the most determined attack.  The fireproof rating on these safes is 2 hours at 1750 degrees F (without the inside temeperature rising above 350 degrees F).

The TRTL-30×6 name is a UL rating, and means that the safe is torch and tool resistant on all 6 sides.  This is a very serious rating!  You should only consider purchasing one if your insurance company requires it.  These safes also feature a multitude  of relockers and a UL listed Group 1  combination dial or electronic keypad locking mechanism.  The TRTL-30×6 safes come with a lifetime warranty against fire and theft, and if the safe cannot be repaired after a fire or attack, Mutual Safes will send you a new one!

TRTL-30×6 are available in several sizes — 30″ x 30″ x 32″, 43″ x 30″ x 32″, 67″ x 30″ x 32″ and 69″ x 44″ x 36″.  For an excellent deal on like-new factory reconditioned TRTL-30×6 safes, see the following link:  Factory Reconditioned TRTL-30×6 Mutual Safes.

Jewelry Safes

Designed for use in jewelry stores, coin shops, and pawn shops, jewelry safes provide a very high level of security against burglars.  A jewelry safe carries a burglary rating, meaning it has been tested to withstand attempts to open it.  An example rating would be a TL 30 rating, which is a very secure safe.  The TL 30 rating means that a professional locksmith, using common locksmith tools, was unable to open the safe in a period of 30 mintues.

Jewelry safes usually have a 5″ thick door and a 2″ thick body.  They have a hardened steel drill-resistant plate surrounding the locking mechanism and use 1-1/2″ thick steel locking bolts.  Most jewelry safes also have a fireproof rating of about 1-1/2 hours.  So if you need the maximum in security for your valuables, consider buying a jewelry safe.  For more information on jewelry safes.

Jewelry Safe

A jewelry safe usually refers to a safe that is burglary rated.  An example rating would be a TL 15 rating.  This means that the safe has been tested by UL to withstand break-in by a professional locksmith using common locksmithing tools for a period of 15 minutes.  This may not seem like very long, but it’s a long time to a burglar - they rely on a quick in-and-out whenever they rob a location.  Most burglars do not have the skills required to open a TL 15 rated safe.

Jewelry safes typically have thicker doors and bodies than regualar safes, and have a drill-resistant top plate surrounding the locking mechanism.  They typically have 5″ thick doors, 2″ thick bodies and use 1-1/2″ locking bolts.  They are also a lot heavier than regular safes, meaning that they cannot be easily carried off.   So if you need the ultimate in security for your valuables, consider getting a TL 15 or 30 rated jewelry safe.  For more information on the jewelry safe.

When I think of what I would like to keep for a long time and then eventually pass on to my kids, my grandmother’s wedding ring comes to mind.  It has been in my family for generations and it has been a part of amazingly loving relationships for hundreds of years.  I think it is the secret to the marriage successes in my family.

My husband and I keep our rings in a jewelry safe when we are doing things in which they might be lost.  They mean a lot to us and I hope that my daughter will have as much luck with it as we have.
