As a gun owner and parent, I have always taken precautions to ensure that my children do not have access to guns. Still, stories in the news of children breaking locks or thieves using an owner’s weapon against them got me thinking about taking more precautions. After some research, I decided to invest in a biometric safe.

A biometric safe is a type of electronic gun safe. It’s electronic in the sense that it uses an electronic locking mechanism instead of a purely mechanical one. A biometric safe only opens to the owner’s fingerprint. Now I know for sure that I am the only person who has access to firearms inside of my home.

electronic safes

Unfortunately, criminals are becoming increasingly crafty about how they can get their hands on our hard-earned belongings. What this means is that even with basic precautions, these criminals are still able to find ways into our homes or cars. Because these criminals are becoming smarter about getting around locks and other diversions, we must also become smarter to combat their devious methods.

Heist movies may make it seem like it’s easy for criminals to crack a safe, but the reality is that most of the thieves who enter your home will not have the technology or the knowhow to infiltrate a high-tech containment system. The electronic safes on the market today are remarkably foolproof. While keeping your most prized possessions outside of your home is advisable, these safes can adequately protect any valuables you need to keep stowed at home.

electronic safe

If you ever seen a heist movie, you’ve undoubtedly seen a set of criminals crack a high-tech safe without breaking a sweat. I don’t know about you, but these movies gave me the initial impression that picking locks and cracking safes was child’s play. I mean, if these state-of-the-art models can be solved in mere seconds, it probably doesn’t take much effort to get through a home safe, right?

In actuality, an electronic safe in your home is one of the most failsafe means of protecting your most important possessions. There is a plethora of electronic safe options available today, including biometric models that use your unique physical characteristics to ensure no one can crack the code.

Is a biometric lock really an advantage over say an electronic keypad? When you think about it, there is always room for error for any kind of lock. For the biometric lock, if there is a little bit of a smudge on the reader you won’t be able to get in. So, you’d have to wipe down the reader and then try again. Plus, biometric locks are expensive pieces of equipment. When it comes to the electronic keypad there’s always a chance that the batteries will be dead when you need to get into your safe the most. But, if you keep up with the changing of the batteries, this will not likely happen. Of course, there’s the code that you’ll have to remember to punch in which can be difficult in a stressful situation. The upside on the electronic keypad is that they are not as expensive as a biometric lock. In fact, a lot of gun safes feature an electronic keypad. So, if I had to choose between a biometric lock and an electronic keypad, it’d be the electronic keypad hands down!!!!

Electronic Safe

The electronic safe is much more versatile than a mechanical one.  There are basically two types of electronic safes - electronic keypad and biometric.  The electronic keypad is opened by entering a pin number on an electronic keypad similar to the ones found on ATM machines.  A biometric safe uses a fingerprint scanner to grant access.

The versatility of an electronic safe is enhanced by the fact that you can enroll multiple users with different pin numbers (or fingerprints).  This accomplishes several things.  It lets you provide access to more than one person without giving out the only key or combination to the safe.  This means you can track who opens the safe and when.  In addition, if someone leaves your employ, you can delete their pin number or fingerprint so that  they no longer have access to the safe.  For more information on the electronic safe.

Electronic Fire Safe

If you’re considering buying a fire safe, consider what type of locking mechanism the safe uses.  By far the most convenient is the electronic locking mechanism.  These come in two types — the electronic keypad type and the biometric type.  The electronic keypad type uses a keypad similar to the ones found on ATM machines.  You simply enter the proper PIN number on the keypad to open the safe.  This is much more convenient than remembering the left-right-left numbers for a combination safe.

The biometric safe is even more convenient — it uses a fingerprint scanner to match your fingerprint to open the safe.  You can enroll multiple users simply by scanning their fingerprints.  This is the most secure type of locking mechanism - no two fingerprints are alike and the scanners don’t make mistakes.  For more information on the electronic fire safe.

Biometric Safes

Biometric safes use the latest in technology to secure your valuables.  Most biometric safes have a fingerprint scanner as the device used to grant access to the safe.  You can’t get more secure than that.  Advances in laser technology have brought prices down to the point that they can be included in a surprisingly affordable safe.  Using a biometric safe is easy - you just use the fingerprint scanner to “enroll” the people who have access to the safe by scanning their fingerprints.

Once a user is enrolled, they will be able to open the safe by simply placing their finger on the scanner.  In addition, the safe will keep track of who opened it and when, and give you a report on this activity.  You have complete control over who has access plus you can look for access at unauthorized times.  So a biometric safe is not only safe and secure, it’s convenient and informative as well.  For more information on biometric safes.

Electronic Safes

Advances in technology have produced electronic safes that rival or even exceed the security provided by safes with mechanical locking mechanisms.  Electronic safes are available with two basic types of locking mechanisms - the electronic keypad or the biometric lock.  An electronic keypad lock functions much like an ATM or a debit-card machine - you open the safe by entering a PIN number on an electronic keypad.  And most electronic keypad safes allow you to add multiple users with different PIN numbers - this  way you can track who has accessed the safe and when.

Biometric safes are the latest advance in safe technology.  They use a biometric device, usually a fingerprint scanner, to grant access to the safe.  All you do is place your index on the scanner and the door will open if it’s a match.  These are possibly the most secure locking mechansims available today.  Biometric safes also support multiple users and provide tracking ability as well.  Electronic safes are available for storage of valuables, media storage and gun storage.  For more information on electronic safes.

Electronic safe

An electronic safe is one that uses an electronic locking mechanism to grant access to the safe.  They are much more convenient to use than a traditional mechanical combination dial.  There are basically two types of electronic safes - electronic keypad and biometric.  The electronic keypad type uses a keyad like the ones on ATM or debit card machines - you enter the combination (PIN number) on the keypad to open the safe.  Multiple users can be given different PIN numbers and some models allow you to track who opens the safe and when.

The biometric type of electronic safe uses a fingerprint scanner to open the safe - you simply place your index finger on they keypad and if it’s a match, the safe opens.  This type also allows you to grant access to several users simply by scanning their fingerprint. Be sure to check the burglary and fire rating on the electronic safe you are considering, as not all safes are rated.  Electronic safes are available in all sizes and shapes for a variety of purposes - their are special media safes, gun safes, depository safe, and burglar and fireproof safes.  For more information on the electronic safe.

Biometric safes

Biometric safes are safes that use some type of uniquely distinguishable body feature to grant access to the safe.  Most use a fingerprint scanner to scan the index finger of the person desiring access.  Eye scanners are available, but the technology is still quite costly.  A biometric safe offers to advantages - security and convenience.  There’s no need to remember a combination or pin number, and it’s easy to grant access to new users by scanning their finger.  And biometric safes are the most secure type - the only way to open the safe is to have a fingerprint that matches.  For now, fingerprints rule, but look for reasonably priced eye scanners in the near future.
